500 Startups is proud to announce the launch of 500 Mobile Collective (aka “500 MC”), a $10M USD micro-fund focused on mobile, managed by new 500 investing partner and Dance Dance Revolution instructor Edith Yeung. Inspired by the GINORMOUS growth of the mobile internet with ~3 billion global users, 500 MC will invest in awesome mobile founders, apps, and startups all over the world.

Why Collective?

500 MC isn’t just one person — it’s actually a collective of many advisors with years of experience building and managing mobile-focused products and companies. The 500 MC Collective will use their various superpowers and dark arts to help startup founders with access to mobile OEMs and carriers and help them with advice on mobile-focused distribution, monetization, commerce and payments.

WHO’S INVOLVED?

Our fabulous, smart, dashingly handsome partners & early 500 MC advisors include:

  • Greg Kidd – Early investor of Twitter and Square
  • Jay Sullivan – Former COO and Interim CEO of Mozilla
  • Yongzhi Yang – Founder and CEO of Dolphin Browser
  • Joe Wu – Cofounder/CEO of 91 (acquired by Baidu for $1.9B) and mFund, a Chinese mobile fund cofounded with Zhang HongYu (Founder of PPS, acquired by Baidu for $370M) and Colin Huang (ex-Google & former hedge fund manager)

Who is Edith Yeung?

Prior to 500, Edith ran marketing and business development for Dolphin Browser, a Sequoia-backed mobile browser company with over 150M installs. She was also co-founder of angel investment firm RightVentures, where she made over 20 startup investments. Before the startup scene, Edith worked with numerous evil empires such as Siebel, AMS, AT&T Wireless, Autodesk, Cisco, and Telstra. In her copious spare time, Edith also writes a weekly mobile newsletter with thousands of subscribers.
