Most of us consider our pets a part of the family, and we are willing to spend money to keep them healthy. This is particularly true for younger pet owners who are increasingly looking for technology solutions that can help them care for their pets in a convenient and affordable way. However, finding credible nutrition information and personalized guidance online can still be difficult.

Momo Project is on a mission to help pet owners get the best customized nutrition and guidance for their pet, enabling them to save time and energy. We are excited to welcome Momo Project to the 500 Family and share more about their innovative approach to pet care and nutrition.

The Nuts & Bolts

Problem: One of a pet owner’s biggest challenges is maintaining the pets’ health and wellness, along with avoiding hefty medical bills. Pet owners also want their pets to stay healthy as they age. While solutions exist for pets after they get sick, many pet owners would like to take preventive measures to keep their pets healthy.

Solution: Momo Project is a pet wellness platform that provides tailored recommendations on pet food, treats, and supplements. Its service is focused on keeping pets healthy at any age and providing pet owners with customized dietary guides. Momo Project also plans to create communities for owners with similar pet medical histories to connect and share information.

When 500 Met Momo Project

The 500 Startups Korea team is well-acquainted with Rebekah Kang, the CEO of Momo Project, because of her strong presence in the Korean startup community. She was the Director of Korea at FiscalNote, CEO and co-founder of MyCandidates, CPO & co-founder of Somoim, among other roles.

As a decade-long pet owner who lost pets to health issues, Kang decided to start Momo Project, along with Henry Park (CTO).

Why Now?

The number of pet owners is surging. According to a 2019-2020 industry survey, 67% or nearly 85 million households in the U.S. own a pet, up from 56% three decades ago. The pet food market is also becoming increasingly saturated. In 2018, more than 4,500 new pet food products were introduced, a 45% increase from 2016.

Meanwhile, rising consumer interest in pet nutrition is another factor that benefits a solution like Momo Project. Millennials and young professionals between the ages of 25-34 years old and those who live in city areas are especially willing to spend money on pet care as they consider their pets to be part of their families.

Future of Momo Project

Within a few months of launching, Momo Project managed to create a large database of information about various pet food brands and analyzed their ingredients in order to provide users with valuable data across a variety of dog food, supplements, and treats. The startup also plans to gather key medical data that will help pet owners stay on top of medical issues, and develop a community to connect users with similar healthcare profiles.
